This minimally invasive method of therapy of malignant diseases is carried out without the need to hospitalize patients and significantly facilitates pain in people who have cancer metastasically in the bone. Thus, the use of potent drugs to remove pain is limited.
It is estimated that from 30 to 70 percent of people suffering from cancer have metastases in bones that cause severe pain. Affective anesthesia methods cannot strongly help these patients. Many people need elevated doses of narcotic policies to alleviate everyday pain.
Radio frequency ablation (RCH) uses heat to remove (literally destroying) cancer cells and is often used in tumors of liver, kidney and lungs. Now the study published in the Cancer magazine showed that this method is also effective in patients with metastases in the bone.
"Obviously, it is necessary to determine improved palliative treatments to meet the needs of many patients with this problem. RCH is widely available, covered by insurance [USA] and can be carried out without hospitalization. It often makes it possible to improve the patient's interaction with loved ones, because it reduces the frequent use of drugs, which would otherwise leave them unsatisfied, "says Dr. Damian Dupiui, research leader. He added that this method can be performed several times.
The researchers examined 55 patients with painful metastases in the bone. Each of them was conducted by RCH tumor, and the level of pain was evaluated before the procedure, then every day after it, within two weeks and three months later.
A statistically significant relief from the point of view of the intensity and severity of pain was demonstrated. The most positive results were observed a month after the procedure, and even the mood of patients improved.
"We know that radio frequency ablation is an effective means of treating cancer when the operation is impossible. It offers potential advantages compared to other methods, since the destruction of cells occurs immediately and is performed under local anesthesia without the need for hospitalization. This is a significant step forward in the treatment of pain of these patients, "says Damian Dupyui.
Radio frequency ablation is an alternative to patients who previously passed radiation therapy and reached the maximum amount of radiation doses, but still suffer severe pain. And there are really many such people. Now oncologists have another solution for anesthesia. orbex prime rocket
